These earbuds are totally devoid of bass, and even of low midrange sounds. At first, I tried them out when listening to some podcasts. The lack of bass actually makes spoken word a bit easier to understand. But when I put on some music – The Clash's Train in Vain, from London Calling, for example, with a strong bass riff – the music was hollow and empty.

No, these don't cut it for listening to music. They're a bit better than the previous earbuds in terms of sound, and much better at staying in ears, but if you really want to listen to your music, try something else.

Resumen ...
   
- Lightning is adaptive.
   
- All 8 pins are used for signals, and all or most can be switched to be used for power. So it makes no sense to say "Lightning is USB2-only" or whatever.
   
- The outer plug shell is used as ground reference and connected to the device shell.
   
- At least one (probably at most two) of the pins is used for detecting what sort of plug is plugged in.
   
- All plugs have to contain a controller/driver chip to implement the "adaptive" thing.
   
- The device watches for a momentary short on all pins (by the leading edge of the plug) to detect plug insertion/removal.
   
- The pins on the plug are deactivated until after the plug is fully inserted, when a wake-up signal on one of the pins cues the chip inside the plug. This avoids any shorting hazard while the plug isn't inside the connector.
   
- The controller/driver chip tells the device what type it is, and for cases like the Lightning-to-USB cable whether a charger (that sends power) or a device (that needs power) is on the other end.
   
- The device can then switch the other pins between the SoC's data lines or the power circuitry, as needed in each case.
   
- Once everything is properly set up, the controller/driver chip gets digital signals from the SoC and converts them – via serial/parallel, ADC/DAC, differential drivers or whatever – to whatever is needed by the interface on the other end of the adapter or cable. It could even re-encode these signals to some other format to use fewer wires, gain noise-immunity or whatever, and re-decode them on the other end; it's all flexible. It could even convert to optical.

Lo unico que no tienen en catalogo son las resistencia de tantalio y las "wire wound"  , por lo que si no las encuentro por ahi, tendre que acabar realizando el pedido a mouser. Sabeis donde comprarlas a nivel nacional?

    According the Peter, the chip doesn't block the data lines, but you need data and power to connect by USB. That could mean any number of things.

    This could mean that it's less nefarious than a authentication system, that it's just for power regulation - but it looks like a serious microcontroller of some sort, it doesn't look like a garden variety voltage regulator that I've ever seen. It has a mirror-finish shiny metal exterior with lasered numbers on it, it does not look like a generic black IC. If it really costs $3.50 for a lightning plug, then it could be something quite high tech. Whatever it is, it's expensive and highly miniaturized. And the cable isn't going to function without it, that I can tell at this point.


     It remains to be seen whether the chip can be reverse engineered.  Nobody that I know of managed to crack the MFi program before, since digital Apple docks and other MFi certified stuff were always quite costly and only coming from well established name brands that participated in the program. I never saw any off brand, super cheap version of the iPod USB digital audio interfaces that cost hundreds of dollars. If the chip has some code on board that makes it authenticate with the iPhone, then it may be hard to duplicate for sure. If it's doing a "smart" function like pin assignment or something crazy like that, then it definitely is going to be mandatory. Apple has said it's a "smart" connector but it is horrifying that just a basic power charging/sync cord like this requires additional complexity.  But until some serious engineers figure out exactly what the chips do (MFi people are under NDA so I don't think they can tell us without breaking NDA) then it remains open for debate why this cable is like this.

     It could take some serious engineering brain-power to get to the bottom of what this chip is actually doing. Until then, first-party is the only surefire option.

Ya me han respondido desde el servicio técnico de Musical Fidelity en Vitoria (es el que me pillaba más cerca). Lo que ha fallado es la fuente de alimentación. Les he preguntado la causa y me han respondido que lo ignoran, pero que han comprobado que es lo único que falla.

Algún componente de la fuente, ¿puedes preguntar cuál?

La reparación supone unos 70€. Como por el presupuesto había tenido que adelantar unos 44€, pues sólo me queda por pagar 26.
No es cara, pero me ha dejado sorprendido que una fuente de alimentación falle así. Pensaba que sería cualquier otra cosa.

Tiene que ser poca cosa, un condensador, diodo, regulador, una soldadura etc ... ¿fusible?

De todas formas mejor que falle la fuente.

Peter from Double Helix Cables http://www.doublehelixcables.com took apart the Lightning connector and found inside what appear to be authentication chips. He found a chip located between the V+ contact of the USB and the power pin on the new Lightning plug.

Norah Jones aún parece sufrir en el cara a cara con un público que la admira.

Entre esa cierta reiteración y alguna pieza desconcertante, como el aire medio japonés de Say goodbye, la comunicación entre el escenario y el patio de butacas tardó en establecerse. A partir de la pegadiza Chasing pirates, sin embargo, la mujer con la voz de arena empezó a transmitir esa emoción que acaudala y tarda en aflorar por la lentitud con que combustiona. Cuando se quedó sola frente al piano para interpretar The nearness of you, el clásico que popularizara Ella Fitzgerald, ya era evidente que la platea se inclinaba a sus pies. Y más aún cuando también recreó en solitario su mayor éxito, Don't know why, acentuando el sabor a club nocturno de lo que no deja de ser un tema de Jesse Harris, espléndido y poco difundido cantautor folk.

Todo lo que sucedió a partir de entonces bordeó la excelencia.
