Bricolaje (DIY) / We all can be manufacturers...
Diciembre 13, 2009, 17:38:33

We all can be manufacturers... http://www.adafruit.com/blog/2009/12/02/we-all-can-be-manufacturers/

  • The Web revolution is hitting the real world. "We are entering a new manufacturing age," said Anderson. "I've been thinking about being analog and the world of manufacturing."
  • Manufacturing businesses are utilizing a lot of the techniques pioneered on the Web.
  • Tools of production are being democratized. Exhibit A: 3D printers will now run you $750. Anderson has one in his basement. Laser cutters and circuit boards can all be designed in your basement using world class industrial technologies.
  • If you want scale, a Chinese factory will work with you where ever you are. "I can click a button and make robots in a Chinese factory move," said Anderson. "These factories want to work with smaller companies because there's the flexibility to do so and higher margins. You have access to the same factory as Sony."
  • The list goes on. Anderson's big point is that the barriers to manufacturing are falling away. In fact, we may all be manufacturers down the road. Consider it the long tail of physical stuff.

Crítica de Fred Kaplan para The New York Times:

Intimate Ella Fitzgerald, Rediscovered
http://www.nytimes.com/2009/11/29/arts/music/29ella.html?_r=1

"How's the sound quality?

The Ella sets—which, by the way, are some of the best Ella Fitzgerald ever recorded (!)—sound quite nice indeed. (They were produced by Norman Granz and engineered by Val Valentin.) In the pantheon of Ella, they're not up to the sonic standards of her best studio albums, but they're among her best-sounding live dates, similar in caliber to Ella in Rome (from 1958 concert tapes, which were discovered 30 years later); they're far superior to Live at Mr. Kelly's (a '58 date excavated from the archives just two years ago), which, remarkably, is the only other recording of Ella singing in a small club.

This boxed set is the best recording of the year. Get it.

Discusión general (Off-topic) / Litl :: webbook
Noviembre 19, 2009, 15:31:43

Litl :: webbook
http://www.litl.com/

Como comenta John Gruber:

If a small startup can build the Litl, why couldn't a big company like Dell or Sony? People today still love HP calculators made 30 or even 40 years ago. Has HP made anything this decade that anyone will remember fondly even five years from now? Inkjet printers?

Ear Training for Critical Listening with Pink Noise
http://www.headphone.com/rightbetweenyourears/?p=685

The raging debate over objective (everything is measurable) versus subjective (only the listening experience counts) theories of audio evaluation will, no doubt, rage on. The rational among us will carefully choose bits of wisdom from both sides as we develop our ability to critically evaluate audio gear, and then hopefully learn the the most important lesson of all: when the evaluating is done, just relax and enjoy the music.

In this post I'd like to provide you with a simple tool to help you get some objective ear training.

Bricolaje (DIY) / LCDuino-1 I/O processor
Septiembre 28, 2009, 11:15:46
Últimamente dedico bastante tiempo a experimentar con los arduino, sus posibilidades son múltiples ...  :)

Por ejemplo ...

LCDuino-1 I/O processor

LCDuino-1 is basically an LCD driver circuit based on a customized Arduino platform with some extra features. This board has two 6P pin headers which will mate up with matching receptacles on an industry-standard 2 row x 16 characters LCD module.

The LCDuino-1 itself has enough I/O ports, both analog and digital, to implement simple control and monitoring functionalities. However, such features as input/output selectors, volume controls, etc., require extra hardware. We plan to introduce some or all of the following "application modules" in the future, which will inter-operate with the LCDuino-1:

- Relay based input and output selector
- Relay based volume control attenuator
- PGA2310 based digital volume control
- LDR (light-dependent resistor) based volume control attenuator
- Motorized potentiometer volume control
- X10 power line control
- Possible others
